WEIGHT PULLING

This is an activity that you can do with your Alaskan Malamute.

We find that the Alaskan Malamute that has a job /activity that requires conditioning -training and time spend with the owner- Those Alaskan Malamutes  tend to be a more relaxed & well adjusted .

They will feel like they  have a purpose. They also become well conditioned atheletes .Not to mention what it can do for the owner to walk a few miles dragging your dog in harness for condtitoning-

You will become a conditioned athlete yourself-

You will live longer-As well as your dog-

Find an out of the way field -service road- trail that is not well traveled- Where you can feel at peace in your training- Together you can smell the fresh smell of the wild woods or grassy field- You will see all that nature has to offer-There is wildlife everwhere - This  will open your eyes to new adventures with your buddy the Alaskan Malamute.

You will become a team and the bond will grow. You will become the best of friends-You will be fit as well as your Alaskan Malamute.

Remember a fit Alaskan Malamute will live longer then a over weight couch potato.

Ofcourse we want to spoil our dogs -

You can actually spoil them to death.

no kidding!

In our experience a well conditioned fit Alaskan Malamute is a happy Alaskan Malamute- Remember these are hardy powerful sledge dogs- They love to work-walk- go-

What are you waiting for!

It doesn't mean you have to compete -

Do it for fun-

What ever you do with your Alaskan Malamute for activity always make it fun .

The act of teaching your dog to drag something behind him can also be applied  to training them to pull a sled.

If your dog is weight pull ready -

It would take nothing for your well conditioned Alaskan Malamute to pull you in the winter snow in  a sled- or a cart

If you decide you would be interested in this activity you need to take it slow and easy in your dogs younger years.Let them develop before you put alot of stress on them with too heavy a weight- Take it slow and make it fun.

If you do

Your Alaskan Malamute will enjoy the activity for many years to come.

Nutrition is a key ingredient in your dogs overall health and also is a key ingredient when you are working your dog hard-

We reccomend Red Paw  feed it is formulated for working sled dogs - It is performance tested-

If you are only doing this training low key &  periodically  you may consider feeding your Alaskan Malamute- Canidae-

It is lower protein and fat

These are the  2 Dog  Foods we feed our dogs -Depending on there activity level would depend on  the food we would choose to feed each dog-- Redpaw is high fat high protein Canidae is less-

Both are  naturally preserved there are  no chemical additives -Dog Foods that are infested with chemicals -sub grade meat that have traces of chemicals and hormones etc etc  these non visible  killers  can be slowly poisoning your dogs.

You  do not have a clue-

Be careful what you feed your dog -That decision can save you  alot in the end-Or cost you alot in the end -

If you are not stressing your Alaskan Malamute by working them to the max in heavy competition then  we reccomend mixing 1/4 Red Paw with 3/4 Canidae

If you are really working them stick with the Redpaw-

Also make sure you get a weight pull- freight harness with a spreader bar in the back -Do not use a sled harness for weight pulling -

We use Chains for drag training - Some people use tires-

You can order your harness from

If you do decide to pursue this activity we wish you many happy training days & happy trails!
